With tomorrow serving as the 25th anniversary of Spike Lee’s 1989 movie Do The Right Thing a block party celebrating the milestone was held yesterday at the location of the original filming. The Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood block party featured musical performances from Public Enemy and Yasiin Bey and was also attended by Erykah Badu and Dave Chappelle.

Performing a track that makes a prominent appearance in the film, Public Enemy treated fans to a rendition of “Fight The Power,” a single celebrating its own 25th anniversary as the film’s version was made specifically for the production.

According to HotNewHipHop, Erykah Badu signed autographs while at the party and Yasiin Bey hit the stage for a freestyle session.

Do the Right Thing was written, directed, and produced by Spike Lee and served as the feature film debuts of actors Martin Lawrence and Rosie Perez. While Lee himself plays the part of one of the main characters Mookie, Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro, Ruby Dee, and Danny Aiello also make prominent appearances. Lee received an Academy Award nomination for the movie’s screenplay.
