Scheduled to premiere today (March 28) on BET, the second season of Ultimate Freestyle Friday will kick off at 6 PM EST on the network’s 106 & Park series in a partnership with SMACK and the Ultimate Rap League.

The second season, which will be co-hosted by SMACK DVD founder Troy “Smack” Mitchell, is set to include appearances from Proving Ground contenders Prez Mafia, J Rell and Sno. The tournament will lead up to a final matchup featuring the Season 2 winner and last season’s victor, Ill Will, in a $5,000 grand prize bout. Like the first season, UFF will carry the original URL battle format from the online platform to the network television channel.

Ultimate Freestyle Friday will maintain its celebrity judge format, with Season 2 slated to include Mobb Deep, Kid Capri, the Lox, Papoose, Saigon and Smif-N-Wessun, among others, as judges.

UFF co-host Smack talked to BET about the upcoming season in a recent interview. “I’m really excited about doing a second season of Ultimate Freestyle Friday with 106 & Park,” he said. “Making the transition from DVDs to online and now to network television speaks volumes on the evolution on Rap culture. I’ve been documenting Hip Hop culture for years and the SMACK / Ultimate Rap League brand is the leading force responsible for bringing emcee Battle culture to masses.”

Season 2 of Ultimate Freestyle Fridays will take place over a seven-week period and feature eight competitors leading up to the season finale battle in the 106 & Park Backroom.

Speaking with VladTV in a recent interview, competitor Prez Mafia broke down the landscape of competition on the upcoming season. “Competition is way thick,” he said. “Just like last season, it’s a bunch of hungry dudes out here that wanna do something to make it better for themselves, but at the same time, this is looked at more than last season because it’s the second season. It’s a lot of new faces, brand new faces. So we definitely gotta show off and I know people didn’t come here to make mistakes, I know everybody gon’ come with it. Competition is thick.”

Earlier this week, URL released a trailer for the upcoming season that features clips from the segment and interviews with some of the battlers. The Season 2 trailer of UFF is available below.
