Jay-Z has been in the news more since his apparent retirement than he was before. Among the biggest of the rumors surrounding the Jiggaman is his leaving Roc-A-Fella to start his own label with Warner. To add fuel to those speculations, there have been reports that Def Jam was looking to buy controlling interest in Roc-A-Fella.

According to Angie Martinez, that has happened. She claimed yesterday on Hot97 that Jay-Z, Damon Dash and Kareem Biggs have sold the hip-hop powerhouse to longtime partner Def Jam. She said the trio has nothing to do with the label anymore. Since we have received no confirmations from either party at press time, take this is a rumor till the word comes from the horse’s mouth.

Considering the empire they have built, making their one time independent label into a household name, it is hard to believe they would sell the whole company. Time will tell though.
