The National Hip-Hop Political Assembly (NHHPA) is holding a press conference this Thursday in Washington DC to announce the 5-Point Agenda established at the first ever National Hip-Hop Political Convention, which convened on June 16-19 in Newark, New Jersey.

The agenda includes a strong stand on education, economic justice, criminal justice, health care and human rights as they directly affect the hip-hop voting bloc. Issues such as universal health-care, mandatory minimum sentencing, equal spending per student, and living wage jobs are all prominent features of the agenda.

“This agenda represents one of the hip-hop generation’s first steps in demonstrating that it is a voting bloc to be taken seriously,” says Bakari Kitwana, an organizer for the National Political Hip-Hop Assembly. “Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and others should take note,” adds Kitwana. “The hip-hop generation has clearly identified the critical issues of our time. This is only the beginning.”

Organizers of The Assembly, including convention chair Ras Baraka, Rosa Clemente, also of the Malcolm X Grassroots Organization, and convention co-chair Angela Woodson, along with convention state representatives, will discuss the 5 point agenda in detail. The press conference will be held at the National Press Club from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at 529 14th St. NW, 13th Floor, Washington, DC.
