In September, Top Dawg Entertainment, home to Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and SZA, signed Iasiah Rashad.

In an interview on Shade 45’s Sway in the Morning show, the Chattanooga, Tennessee native brushed off the notion of any pressure stemming from being on the successful label. “All I gotta do is rap good,” he said.

The 22-year-old rapper revealed that his first album is well under way in the recording process. “I’m pretty deep in it,” said Rashad of his first project. “I was trying to figure out how to go about the format of it. That’s what I was thinking about at first, because I had never made a project before. I was just, like, loosely recording, trying to send this to this A&R, let this blogger hear it. So I [hadn’t thought] about making a project. I thought I was going to make my first project when I was twenty-four. I’m two years early.”

Rashad continued, “It’s not necessarily a story or anything, but it’s taking you somewhere. So I was trying to wait until I had enough material that I can, like, piece it together and take you somewhere.”

Isaiah Rashad also spoke about the reactions he’s been getting from people since being featured on TDE’s BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher. “It’s funny, I’ve been having the same number since I’ve been twelve years old, so nobody thinks I have the same number. Facebook? Private. Twitter got blown up, but I don’t pay attention to it. Just, in person, people hit me like I’m famous. It’s like, ‘I’m not famous, bro. You grew up with me. You know who I was. You know who I am. C’mon, you beat me up.'”
