To All those who claim Mos Def “sold out” by getting into acting are looking even more foolish these days. Mos Def has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category.
The nomination is for his role as Vivien Thomas in “Something the Lord Made.” The HBO series is about Thomas, an pioneering African-American heart surgeon who never went to medical school. Mos is up against some serious competition in Al Pacino, Antonio Banderas and James Brolin.
“This is the biggest role I’ve had in film to date,” Mos said. “But, you know, I try not to think about that sort of thing…I just want to do the best work I can, and hopefully that helps tell the story in the best way and stays true to the spirit and the dignity of the story and the people in it.”
