Since the early 90’s the legendary Rock Steady Crew have held an outdoor celebration in the Tri-City area. The four event celebrates all elements of hip-hip and features multiple free concerts, demonstrations, seminars and information booths.
Crazy Legs and the Rock Steady organizers have met a snag this year. They had planned on holding this year’s event at Macomb’s Dam Park near Yankee Stadium in The Bronx after their first two choices were said to be unavailable. As it turns out, New York City’s Parks Department has denied their application to hold their celebration there.
Crazy Legs suspects they have been rejected due to their hip-hop affiliation, but New York City parks Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh denieds that, “I don’t think there was any concern about the promoters of the event itself,” said Kavanagh. “There’s no infrastructure, there’s no bathrooms, there’s very little water service.” Not to worry, it has been confirmed that the event will now be held at Military Park in Newark, NJ.
