Recently, Drake sat down at New York University for an interview with Elliott Wilson on Wilson’s CRWN series.
During the interview, Drizzy spoke about “Pound Cake,” the track featuring Jay Z from the Toronto rapper’s latest release, Nothing Was the Same.
“‘Pound Cake’ happened while I was writing for Beyoncé or working with Beyoncé,” explained Drake, who quickly corrected himself. “Not writing for, working with. I hate saying writing for ’cause she’s a phenomenal writer. She has bars on bars.”
Drake continued, explaining Jay’s involvement, which started with a pair of Hov a capella verses left over from Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. “I sent the song back to Jay, and that was when it almost became a Jay Z song. He’s such a good guy. He was just like, ‘Man, I gave my word.’”

“Everybody around him was hype around the song,” added Drizzy. “We’re all so grateful to have Hov. I don’t know what I’d do without that guy sometimes. He’s full of gems, full of advice, and obviously one of the most talented people.”
Finally Drake revealed plans to one day make an entire album featuring his singing. “I’m looking forward to giving you my version of a full singing record one day.” Drake recently admitted that he sometimes prefers R&B over Rap.
