Some 13 years after the infamous Rodney King beating and ensuing LA riots, the LAPD has struck again, literally. Wednesday of last week 36 year old Stanley Miller of Compton was beaten with a flashlight by an LAPD officer.
Miller was involved in a chase with police before the incident came to a climax. Television news crews in helicopters followed the early morning car chase that ended in Compton shortly before 6 am. According to reports, Miller ran from the stolen Toyota Camry and was pursued by nearly half a dozen officers. Unarmed, Miller ran for a short distance before stopping and surrendering. Caught on video, he raised his arms and began to crouch.
At that point two officers approached Miller and restrained him on the ground. It was then a third officer approached and kicked Miller, before removing his flashlight and beating his upper body with eleven blows. When Miller was taken to the hospital he said he was hit in the head at some point. After the man was in custody, the three officers can be seen shaking hands. The LAPD and FBI have opened investigations on the incident.
