Houston-rapper RiFF RaFF appeared on AXS TV’s “Skee Live” yesterday (August 27). In an interview with host DJ Skee, the “Raiders vs. Hawks”-artist explained the status of his pending collaboration with Drake.

“To be perfectly honest with you, situations like that, there’s a lot of paper work and stipulations—stuff that goes behind the situation,” RiFF RaFF said. “We already have things in the making, but I can’t drop it. I would drop it today if I could, but at the same time, people say timing and all that, but I’d drop it. He has an album to come out. I do, too. There’s no rush. We have a lot of things we’re going to be working on.”

While the Drake collaboration remains on the shelf, the rapper also known as Jody High Roller confirmed that he is working with Big Sean and Fitz And The Tantrums. “Big Sean is getting on the ‘Mr. Popular’ record,” he said. “The Fitz And The Tantrums, they’re getting on my album [Neon Icon]. They like my music and I like theirs.”

Away from the music, RiFF RaFF spoke about his increased profile despite not having yet released an album. “The thing with situations like this is that the world is catching up to me,” he said. “I’m not changing. I haven’t changed.

“The only thing that’s changing with me is that I have some more pocket change,” he continued. “I got some more money so I’m gonna spend more. Like, the more I get, the more I’m gonna spend. I have a house being built in [Las Vegas, Nevada]. I have another house in Arizona. The more money I get, I’m gonna spend it. I’m not too big on saving money.

“To me, if you spend money on what you like, that’s a smart investment,” concludes RiFF RaFF. “A lot of people will tell you where to spend your money, what to do with your money. But if you aren’t happy, then what’s the point of being alive? So if people are like, ‘Damn, why do you spend $3-400 on a meal, eating lobster and shrimp?’ That’s what I always wanted. That’s what I’ma do. That’s how I want it. They ask me why do I fly First Class or private. If I could buy a private plane right now, I would.”

When asked by DJ Skee what he thought about Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” RiFF RaFF said, “I met Kendrick in Finland. He’s a really cool, happy person. His vibe is cool. I don’t have any problems. I couldn’t care less.”

RiFF RaFF’s debut, Neon Icon is slated for release on September 24.
