On June 7th at the 2004 Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards P. Diddy” took the top honors as he was named men’s wear designer of the year for his Sean John collection. Diddy has made his mark as the first African-American to win this award, which is voted on by the fashion industry’s elite.

“I’m overwhelmed and humbled by the recognition the CFDA has given me, Combs said. “This award is especially meaningful because I am the first African-American ever to win it. This sends a signal to kids all over America…they too can be a successful fashion designer regardless of their race.”

Diddy has had four consecutive nominations for his Sean John line, and this win couldn’t have come at a better time with the Sean John women’s collection slated to launch in 2005.
