He likes to make music, he wants people to hear it. Their business is releasing music, they want people to hear it. He makes music, they don’t release it. He wants to be cut loose so he can actually release music, they refuse to. His fried offers them substantial money to buy them out of his contract, they refuse and still don’t release his music. And so we basically sum up the relationship between Ras Kass and Priority. Now, with Ras in prison for DUI and three albums and a DVD collecting dust, Ras has filed a civil complaint against Priority Records in a Los Angeles County Superior Court.

With only two releases in nearly a decade of signing with the label (and no release in 6 years), Ras is demanding to be released from the label based on claims that Priority has breached specific acts of his recording contract. In addition he is citing emotional distress and is seeking damages of $5 million plus.

Originally slated for release in 2000, the critically acclaimed “Van Gogh” has yet to see the light of day aside from the bootleg copies floating around. His follow-up “Goldyn Chyld” has suffered the same fate. “I want what is fair; all I want is to create great music, have the proper team behind me, and be the artist that I am. I am prepared to do what it takes in order to be released from this ugly situation,” Ras Kass said in a released statement.
