Chart Attack Magazine met with the Beastie Boys in New York before they appeared on MTV to premier their new video and single “Ch-Check It Out.” Eminem was in the building as well because D-12 was to perform later that night. To show his respect and say hello, Em stopped by the Beastie’s dressing room.

“It was actually funny, ‘cause there was a little misunderstanding when he came to the dressing room,” explained MCA. “Because we’d been joking around, saying that we should have called our album ‘Still Doin’ It, Huh?’ and we kept on saying that. And so, when Eminem came into our dressing room, he was like, ‘Yo, what’s up, just wanted to say what’s up to everybody‚’ and we shook his hand and stuff.” Then in a strange coincidence, Em commented on the longevity by remarking, “Still doin’ it, man, still doin’ it.” Amused at his unknown reference to their inside joke, MCA explains “We all just burst out laughing. He kind of looked puzzled and walked out.”

Eminem, who has been known to take things personally, could have taken their seemingly strange reaction as an insult, not knowing why they found his remarks so funny. “Nah, I don’t think he…it wasn’t that big of a deal,” says Mike D. “He must have a sense of humour…” The Beasties wanted to make it clear that they respect Em and it was just a misunderstanding. And they think he is pretty good. “He definitely has his own way — the way he switches his flows up. Very versatile MC.”
