With 50 Cent selling a bazillion units with a well-executing marketing plan highlighting his run-ins with guns, I’m sure Def Jam has big plans for Shyne. Three years ago Shyne was sentenced to 10 years after a highly publicized nightclub shooting involving P. Diddy.

With the Biggie-sound-a-like’s self-titled debut going nearly platinum, Def Jam President Kevin Liles saw some potential and visited Shyne several times in prison. Apparently it was last week when Russell Simmons accompanied him and the deal was put in place.

Reports say the deal is worth $3 million and gives Shyne is own Gangland Records imprint. An album of previously recorded material is expected to be on the shelves this fall.
