Messy Marv hit the San Fran hip hop scene in 1995 with his indy debut “Messy Situations” which catapulted him into the local spotlight alongside another San Francisco Native, San Quinn. The two joined forces and released “Explosive Mode” in 1998. The album was an instant regional classic selling over 20,000 units and is credited for putting the phrase “pop yo collar” on the map.
Marv followed up his success with two more critically acclaimed albums in 1999 and 2001, “Still Explosive” and “Turf Politics” respectively. His latest effort “Disobayish” dropped on March 9th. The album features guest appearances by E-40, Toni! Tone! Tony!, Too Short and Yukmouth of the Luniz. The record was produced at Michael Denton’s famous Infinite Studio in Oakland, California by Rick Rock (Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes); Dwayne Wiggins and E-A-Ski
“In Front Of The Buildings” features Marv responding to the recent slandering of San Fran by Obie Trice, who cracked jokes that everyone in S.F. was gay while he was on tour. “‘In Front Of The Buildings’ is not me just trying diss somebody for fame. This n*gga got on-air talkin’ bout my city!”, explains an angered Marv. “I just had to let him know one time. That dude ain’t walkin’ the streets out here, he wouldn’t last five minutes.”
