Starz has announced plans to put Turf, a drama about the birth of Hip Hop, into development.

According to Deadline, the network will chronicle the beginning of Hip Hop culture “from the violence of gang life in 1970s Bronx.”

Zimbabwe resident Patrick Macmanus will pen the script for the series. The writer was previously on staff for Starz’s Marco Polo and Noir, and is also currently co-writing the CW’s Sleepy Hollow series reboot with Grant Scharbo.

HipHopDX will keep you updated as more information on the series comes to light.
