Finally, Maker Music recently sat down for an exhaustive interview between west coast Hip Hop mainstays Murs and DJ Quik. During the interview, the pair reminisced on coming out during California’s heyday, and even recalled working in the studio together.
“Literally, [DJ Quik] cut the tape on my record,” Murs explained. “He can splice tape, he can mix – I remember the dude we were in [the studio] with…was trying to tell us, ‘You can’t do that’…this is an engineer just out of school, he thinks he knows everything about the room, and Quik went [and patched it himself]. I was like, ‘Whoa’ – but [he] wasn’t arrogant about it; [he] was like, ‘Alright, I told you and now I have to show you ‘cus you think that I’m a rapper that doesn’t know anything’…he knows all the out board gear.”
