In other news, Hoopla Worldwide has inked a deal with WIDEawake/Death Row Records to distribute music projects through WIDEawake’s partnership with eOne Music (formally Koch Records).

Established in 2008, Hoopla Media Group began its work by developing national publicity and marketing campaigns for an assortment of well-established Hip Hop acts. Now Hoopla is taking the next logical step in its evolution as a full-service media company and adding a full-fledged record label to its repertoire.

Originating in Louisville, Kentucky, but with team members strategically based all across the United States and Canada, Hoopla began its relationship with WIDEawake Entertainment publicizing and marketing their releases from the vast Death Row vault. Impressed with Hoopla’s work, WIDEawake offered a full-blown distribution deal to the media mammoth founded by Jonathan Hay and Chad Kiser.

“To be working under the same umbrella with Death Row Records … is an accomplishment that I’m very much honored to have,” said Kiser via statement. “For our own upcoming Hoopla Worldwide releases, we will be putting out some major established artists of our own, and also some new and exciting artists who will really break out and penetrate throughout the music industry.”

Finally, renowned Hip Hop author Michael Eric Dyson is taking his literature to the classroom with a new course at Georgetown University based on none other than Jay-Z. According to MTV, Dyson is teaching a new course on Jay-Z as an emcee, a businessman and his significance to the Hip Hop culture.

“We look at [Jay’s] incredible body of work, we look at his own understanding of his work, we look at others who reflect upon him, and then we ask the students to engage in critical analysis of Jay-Z himself,” said Dyson in an interview. “Not only is he a remarkable rhetorical genius, he’s also a man of deep sympathy and empathy for those who are lost and vulnerable, but especially under-educated youth of all cultures and stripes.”

Dyson also spoke on why he chose Hov as the focus of his course, saying that Jay’s extensive discography exemplifies the best qualities of hip Hop music.

“Speaking out against rap music is useless, and it’s futile. The reality is there’s criticism for everything, but Jay-Z is one of the most remarkable artists of our time of any genre, and as a hip-hop artist he carries the weight of that art form with such splendor and grace and genius,” he said. “I admire the way in which he carries himself and the incredible craft that he displays every time he steps up to the microphone…that’s why it’s important for young people to see that the rhetorical invention of African American culture needs to be taken seriously with one of its greatest artist.”
