The New York club SOB’s is the new home to the Hip Hop game show Mr. Complex created called Hip to the Game. The object of the game is to test your all around Hip Hop knowledge, and it has over twenty categories of questions – think Hip Hop Jeopardy without all that corn ass answers for the question shit.
The game is hella fun and occasionally Hip Hop artists will sign up to compete. But whether you’re a head or a head-nodda, be forewarned – don’t step up unless you really know your stuff. Previous questions include, “On 50 Cent’s record ‘How To Rob An Industry Nigga’ what was Missy eating when he ran up on her and Timberland?” Or “In the song Big Ole Butt, what time was it when LL got to the high school and saw [Brenda’s] big ole butt?” Others are posed as parts of lyrics, for which you have to give the correct artist. For example, They said “Did you get it?” /I said “Yeah”/They said “How was it?”
To the three people that got those right, congratufuckinlations – you’re some real heads! For the rest of you the answers are at the bottom.
Complex has been doing Hip to the Game at different spots for a few years now. Prior to SOB’s he brought the show to other New York locales like Fat Beats record store and the Knitting Factory. Hip to the Game has also traveled outside of New York, and when it does Complex alters the questions slightly to suit the area. If he’s in Cali, for example, he’ll add an extra mix of questions about West Coast Hip Hop history. If you’d like to be a contestant on the show (which Complex does every other month) email him at mrcomplexx@hotmail.com and remember to include your location. If enough heads in a certain area want to play, Complex might just bring the game to them.
