In the 13 years since the Notorious B.I.G. was murdered in a drive-by shooting, two lawsuits filed by the Wallace estate against the LAPD have proved inconclusive. In April, a judge tossed out the second lawsuit, which alleged the LAPD didn’t do enough to prevent the rapper’s death when he was gunned down in a 1997 drive-by shooting.
“That’s kinda why we put the case on hold; until [the police] can prove that they’re actually pursuing it,” Faith Evans told the UK Voice during a recent interview. Evans was the estranged wife of B.I.G. during his 1997 murder. “But in our hearts—the family—we have an idea what happened. We don’t know who pulled the trigger but we have an idea what went on. It’s not something I would speak on because it’s still a pending case, so that wouldn’t be smart at all. But we have an idea, though we don’t know if it will ever be solved in the judicial system.”
During the April dismissal, Wallace Family judge, Bradley Gage said the family could resume the case when they felt the time was appropriate since murder has no statute of limitations.
“And you know, there’s still so much to get your head around; we still have this [murder] case,” Evans added. “But I believe God puts us in places we need to be in order to get where we have to go. So I’m really glad to have been a part of his life.”
