New York Daily News reports, Nicole Paultre Bell, the widown of Sean Bell, will run for a position as a Queens City Council member.

“What happened to me four years ago-I didn’t expect that to happen,” Bell said, while speaking exclusively with the Daily News. “This is what life threw my way. It made me realize that there are serious problems out there.”

Paultre Bell’s cause was taken up by the likes of Jay-Z, Game, Papoose and others in the Hip Hop community after Sean Bell was murdered by a group of NYPD officers while leaving his bachelor party in 2006. The city has since settled a lawsuit with the families of Bell, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield.

At issue is Paultre Bell’s lack of political expertise and the fact that she currently resides in Far Rockaway. She would have to relocate to the Jamaica/Queens area in order to be eligible, as well as collect 899 signatures from registered voters to enter the council race. She has currently secured endorsements and personal relationships from Rev. Al Sharpton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson. More on Paultre Bell’s entry into the Queens City Councilman race is available via New York Daily News.
