Ice-T is ready to come for Slick Rick‘s throne as the “king of stories” with his forthcoming effort, The Legend of ICE-T ‘Crime Stories’ Vol 1 & 2.
The veteran rapper/actor shared his plans in a new interview with AllHipHop published on Thursday (March 31). Though the conversation was to promote his new iHeartPodcast, Ice-T’s Daily Game, the always-working Ice also revealed what else he has in the pipeline – which includes hopefully dethroning Slick Rick.

“I got a rap project coming out and it’s called – first, I’ve never spoken on it yet – it’s called, The Legend of Ice-T ‘Crime Stories’ Vol 1 & 2,” he began. “It’s a compilation of all my story rhymes from all eight albums and about six new songs that are all story-based. You know, they say Slick Rick is the king of stories. I’m coming for that throne. Wait till you hear this.”
He continued: “These are all my story records from ‘6 ’N the Mornin’’ to ‘Midnight’ and all these adventures put into one album. It’s a double vinyl release, it has two vinyls and it’s gonna be like a classic collector’s piece. The reason it’s titled The Legend of Ice-T is because a lot of things people believe about me are legend.”

Both Hip Hop legends have been getting their flowers as of late. In February, Ice-T was honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The same month, Slick Rick was honored with a 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.
“To be receiving this honor is incredible,” The Ruler told HipHopDX of his award. “And to be in marvelous company with my fellow inductees is humbling. God is good. All the time!”
His storytelling prowess has influenced multiple generations of rappers, and superstars among the likes of Nicki Minaj and Pharrell have sung his praises recently.
The Young Money Queen took to Twitter to salute The Ruler last year while revealing his 1988 track “Mona Lisa” — taken from his landmark album The Great Adventures of Slick Rick — was the first rap song she learned growing up.

“Slicker than the guy w|da thing on his eye,” she wrote, referencing her Slick Rick bar on “Super Bass.” “If you only knew how much I love you. the 1st rap I ever learned was #MonaLisa. 1 day I rapped it to my mthr & when I got to the part about ‘a virgin?’ My mthr looked @ me like I lost my damn mind. I didn’t know what that meant.”
In October, Pharrell also paid homage to Slick Rick during his inaugural Joopiter Auction sale, and said he wouldn’t be where he was without the rapper’s influence.

“The reason why there is even an exhibition is because of Rick the Ruler,” Pharrell said. “I’m a crumb! I will always be a crumb to this guy right here. I learned what a Gucci link was because of this guy right here. I learned what a Cuban was because of this guy right here.”
