Hurricane Chris’ murder victim has been compared to the Friday character Deebo during the rapper’s trial in court.

The “A Bay Bay” rapper (real name Christopher Dooley) was arrested after shooting Danzeria O. Ferris Jr. in June 2020, who Chris accused of trying to steal his car outside of a convenience store in Shreveport, Louisiana.

When officers arrived on the scene, Ferris Jr. was rushed to a local hospital with gunshot wounds in his chest, hip and stomach. He later died at a local hospital and the car in question turned out to be stolen.

Hurricane Chris was charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a stolen 2016 Mercedes Sedan, and after a delay, the trial finally got underway on Wednesday (March 8).

According to KSLA 12 reporter Alexandria Savage, Chris’ defense attorney argued on the first day of testimony that the deceased had the same physical stature as Deebo from the 1995 comedy film Friday.

“In opening statements for Christopher Dooley aka ‘Hurricane Chris’ murder trial the Defense attorney described the deceased as ‘Debo’ a popular character from the movie Friday, while showing a picture of the character,” Savage tweeted.

The jury also heard several 911 calls from the fatal shooting.

“Three 911 calls were played for jurors today,” Savage tweeted. “One witness in the calls says the deceased Danzeria Farris Jr. took his last breath at the Texaco on Hollywood Avenue. While listening to the calls from witnesses to 911 a woman left the courtroom in tears.”

Hurricane Chris posted a $500,000 bond just two days after his 2020 arrest, and has maintained his innocence while continuing to affirm that his “name will be cleared.”

“Hello world, hello world, hello world,” he said in a video after posting bond. “I’m sure you got the news by now. I was involved in a very unfortunate incident on Friday morning, a very unfortunate incident. I wanna thank everybody who’s been praying for the family of the deceased and everybody who’s been praying for my family.

“After a good, thorough investigation, my name will be cleared,” he continued. “Let God work, watch God work. God bless. Thank you.”

Hurricane Chris additionally spoke on the pending trial during a 2021 interview, admitting the situation was stressful but said it’s likely he wouldn’t spend any time behind bars.

“It’s a very stressful situation,” he admitted. “It’s hard on me and everybody around me. It’s a lot of emotional stress involved with being wrongfully [accused]… I’ve never had a misdemeanor, I’ve never been charged with nothing. I’m chill, laid back, making music. I ain’t never been in jail for nothing. Everything legal.”

He concluded: “Everything on tape. I’m comfortable with my legal team. That part of it is not on my mind.”
