Floyd Mayweather has shed light on his relationship with NBA YoungBoy, emphasizing their close bond.
During an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, the 46-year-old was asked how he feels about his grandchild — who is the son of YoungBoy and Floyd’s daughter Yaya — being “more popular” than him.

“Well, that’s the ultimate goal!” the former boxer replied. “The ultimate goal is to always put your loved ones, your family members, in a position to grow and that’s what it’s about.
“Me and NBA YoungBoy speak on a regular, speak on the daily. I’m very happy for his career, proud of him. And eventually, he’s gonna grow like anybody that’s young.”

He added: “When I was young, I visualized and seen things a certain way. But as you get older, you look at things totally different.”
When prompted for more details on the “dynamic” of their relationship, Mayweather said: “We talk about investments and just growth. Buying land.”

This is not the first time that Floyd Mayweather has spoken highly of NBA YoungBoy, despite the rapper’s tumultuous relationship with his daughter.
During a previous appearance on The Pivot Podcast in 2022, he said: “I’m proud of him — a very, very talented young kid. One of the biggest artists as far as in music. He’s got a cult-like following. I look at him just like one of my sons. I only want the best for him.”

Money Mayweather went on to say that he’s proud of the father of his grandson and hopes the Baton Rouge native can resolve any conflicts that may prevent him from fully relishing the rewards of his success.
“I don’t want him to have beef with anyone,” he continued. “These kids beefing nowadays and don’t even know what they beefing for. So much talent. See what happens to these young kids, they dying on the regular — Pop Smoke. Just so many young rappers and young entertainers, period.

“I feel like NBA YoungBoy went away for a while — I like to say went to college for a little bit — but he’s back and I’m proud of him. I’m proud of my daughter. And I only want the best for NBA YoungBoy. I’m going to continue to push him and push her for both of them to be great.”
NBA YoungBoy and Yaya Mayweather’s relationship started in late 2018 but faced challenges along the way. In 2020, Yaya announced her pregnancy, welcoming their son later that year.
Despite the joy of becoming parents, their relationship encountered difficulties with the rapper taking a direct shot at his baby mama in an unreleased track titled “Carry On.” On the song, YoungBoy claimed Yaya was preventing him from seeing his son.
In 2022, drama ensued when Yaya Mayweather received a six-year probation sentence for stabbing NBA YoungBoy’s ex-girlfriend Lapattra Lashai Jacobs.

The incident occurred during a confrontation at YoungBoy’s residence on April 4, 2020, where Mayweather allegedly attacked Jacobs with two knives. Mayweather claimed to be YoungBoy’s fiancée during the altercation. She later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
