Fat Joe has blasted Akademiks for setting up Lil Durk with his questioning around Gunna’ssnitching allegations.

Durkio sat down for a lengthy interview on Ak’s Off the Record podcast earlier this week, where he opened up about a myriad of topics regarding his own turbulent career and wider hot-button topics that have dominated Hip Hop headlines.

Joey Crack called out Akademiks during an Instagram Live on Tuesday (May 23) for using the “oldest journalist trick in the book” by asking the OTF honcho if he thinks Gunna “told” on Young Thug by taking a plea deal in the YSL RICO case, essentially pitting the two rappers against each other.

For his part, Durk had no problem publicizing his disdain for “rats,” telling Gunna he “should’ve went in there and kept your mouth closed.” He added: “If you a rat, I fucking hate you. ‘Cause I love Thug.”

“He made him answer what he thought about Gunna,” Joe began. “That’s the oldest trick in the book in Hip Hop journalism. Now, Durk jumps out and says, ‘No, I’m not.’ Now these two people don’t like each other for the rest of their life.

“But this is the type of entrapment, East-Coast West Coast beef, VIBE magazine, The Source magazine shit they been doing. Here, we stay in the light. We want to hear positive things about everybody.”

Lil Durk’s interview with Akademiks isn’t the first time he’s spoken about Gunna, though. A snippet of an unreleased track he posted to Instagram earlier this year poked fun at the DS4Ever rapper.

“What happened to Virgil? He probably gon’ tell,” he rapped on the song, referencing his “What Happened to Virgil” collaboration with Gunna from last year’s 7220.

Last May, Gunna was arrested with Young Thug and 26 others on racketeering charges related to their YSL crew, which prosecutors allege is a criminal street gang behind a serious of violent crimes in Atlanta.

In December, Gunna and his legal team entered an Alford plea where he pleaded guilty to a single racketeering charge while also maintaining his innocence.

As a result, Gunna was released from jail and sentenced to five years with one year served. The four-year sentence left was reportedly “suspended” so that the rapper could serve the remainder through community service.

Despite the widespread rumors that he snitched, Gunna made it clear in a statement following his release that he did not cooperate.

“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” he said.
