Eve doesn’t let just anyone sample her catalogue of hits, but for UK rapper Central Cee‘s “Doja” single, she was happy to oblige – and she explained why in a recent interview.
Ruff Ryders’ First Lady stopped by 1Xtra’s Rap Show to chop it up with host Tiffany Calver in a new interview released on Thursday (March 16).

When Calver brought up Cee’s viral homage to Doja Cat that samples Eve and Gwen Stefani’s 2001 hit “Blow Ya Mind,” Eve broke down her process for approving – or denying – the sample requests. For Cee, it was a no-brainer.
“He ate that record!” Eve began. “So for that record in particular, we were very involved because I don’t say yes a lot. We get probably two to three offers a month. It’s usually ‘Blow Ya Mind’ or ‘Who’s That Girl.’ Those are the two that we get.”

She continued: “But him… First of all, knowing and living in London, his name’s already been ringing and I liked him. I was like, ‘Yo, he’s a dope artist.’ And then we got the song and I was like, ‘This song is everything!’”

“Doja” dropped in July of 2022 and instantly went viral on TikTok for its lyrics, including the oft-repeated, “How can I be homophobic? My bitch is gay.” With a Lyrical Lemonade video, Central Cee became the first UK artist to have a video directed by Cole Bennett.
As for Eve, the Philly native has been enjoying motherhood after welcoming her first child with husband Maximillion Cooper in February 2022.
The pair announced the pregnancy months earlier with an Instagram post showing off her baby bump. While she’d already been a step-mother to Cooper’s four children, this was the first child of her own.
After four years as a co-host on The Talk, Eve departed the show in 2020 to focus on her family. She later joined the cast of the ABC sitcom Queens alongside Brandy and Naturi Naughton – but became pregnant during filming and had to depart the show.

Unfortunately, Queens was canceled after just one season despite a solid finale with over one million viewers and star-studded guest appearances among the likes of Fivio Foreign, Jadakiss, Cam’ron, Trina, DJ Envy and Wyclef Jean.
