Erykah Badu has said that having multiple baby fathers is nothing to be ashamed about and that all partners need to do is make the best out of those situations.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Badu — who has three children with André 3000, Jay Electronica and The D.O.C. — broke down how she didn’t plan to have multiple baby fathers, but said those situations never prevented her from living her best life.

“I think if you’re transparent, people shouldn’t do that,” she said after Charlamagne Tha God pointed out that people are often criticized for having multiple partners. “No one would expect to have three baby daddies. Who plans that?

“But when those things start to happen, you don’t stop living. You continue to grow, and live and learn and make the best out of those situations and things. Who would wanna do that? In this judgemental society.”

She added: “Love is a chemical thing. We fall in love. I think God make us fall in love just long enough to get pregnant so that we could go ahead and procreate keep the race going and that dies down and then everything else is on you.

“Depending on your culture, next step is marriage or the next step is another mate. In our culture, our next step is supposed to be marriage and it doesn’t fit everybody. That doesn’t fit me.”

Erykah Badu has been very vocal about her relationship experiences of late. In a recent interview on the Tamron Hall Show, the singer spoke about the long-running urban legend that men can’t look at her without falling in love.

“That’s why I try to wear a hat,” Badu joked. “‘Cause I don’t know what’s happening.” She then added that she’s single, and said her “mystical” charm doesn’t just apply to men.

“Women too,” she continued, “and children and animals. Any living, breathing thing … I think it is indescribable, and the bedroom, that’s not where you’re gonna find it because my magic doesn’t lie between my thighs; it lies between my ears.”

Erykah Badu’s interview comes after she and The D.O.C. became trending topics on social media in January following a picture posted by their daughter Puma showing off their rear ends.

Puma was the first to respond to the criticism, and asked Instagram what exactly the issue was.

“I posted a pic (not my mom) of me and my mama badu in some cute form fitting pants. I’m an adult. What’s the real issue? Let’s discuss,” the 18-year-old wrote in a separate post.

Erykah and The D.O.C. both replied in Puma’s comments, with the former writing: “Well…” as if waiting to hear what people had to say.

Speaking to HipHopDX last year about his self-titled documentary, The D.O.C. opened up about his relationship with Badu and revealed they’re still so close that she even delivered his children with his new wife.

“I owe Erykah everything,” the former N.W.A affiliate said. “I mean, Erykah is a soulmate. She brought amazing energy to this film in a lot of ways. She was really in touch with us in a lot of ways behind the scenes, and did a lot to help us push this thing forward. And just as a man went forward, my two sons, Erykah was the doula, she delivered my boys.”

He added: “Honestly, she’s the coolest person that I’ve ever spoken to, ever. She is cool as fuck. I mean, she’s just got such a presence. I would describe her as ethereal.”
