E-40 has criticized Rolling Stone for not including “Tell Me When to Go” on their list of “100 Greatest West Coast Hip Hop Songs.”

The Bay Area legend took to Twitter on Wednesday (May 3) to air his grievances with the publication, who published the expansive list earlier this week.

40 Water started off by thanking Rolling Stone for including his 1993 song “Captain Save a Hoe,” which made the top 20, but took issue with his “timeless” 2006 hit being left off.

“Hey Rolling Stone, appreciate you guys for including ‘Captain Save a Hoe’ at No. 18 of your 100 Greatest West Coast Hip-Hop Songs of All Time,” E-40 wrote. “But there’s no excuse for ‘Tell Me When To Go’ being completely left off the list #Timeless.”

Featuring fellow Bay Area native Keak Da Sneak, “Tell Me When to Go” appeared on E-40’s 2006 album My Ghetto Report Card. The Lil Jon-produced track is credited with bringing national attention to the hyphy movement and popularizing the phrase “ghost ride the whip.”

The song hit No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was eventually certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). As for “Captain Save a Hoe,” the song was E-40’s breakout hit, peaking at No. 94 on the Hot 100.

Rolling Stone‘s greatest West Coast rap songs list was topped by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “Nuthin’ But a G Thang,” with N.W.A’s “Straight Outta Compton” and Kendrick Lamar’s “M.A.A.D City” coming in at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Classic picks from 2Pac, Souls of Mischief, Too $hort, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Mac Dre and Ice-T rounded out the top 10.

This isn’t the first time E-40 has spoken about being slept-on. He previously took to Twitter in January after Billboard and VIBE published their Top 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list, which saw the Bay Area rapper come in at No. 41.

“Appreciate the recognition from @billboard & @VibeMagazine for their 50 Greatest Rappers of All-Time list,” he tweeted. “Still feel underrated nationally but nobody can deny my longevity, independent hustle, my unorthodox style and creative slang in this rap game!!”

Currently, E-40 is fresh off the release of Snoop, Cube, 40, $hort, his collaborative project with Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Too $hort, who are collectively known as Mount Westmore.

The 55-year-old ” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>revealed his own East Coast Mount Rushmore during an interview on People’s Party With Talib Kweli earlier this year, and while JAY-Z and Nas were automatic inclusions, 40 vouched for Busta Rhymes‘ inclusion.
