Dr. Dre is gearing up to make his return to music with Snoop Dogg‘s new album Missionary, which he’s fully produciing — but before then, he’s hit the studio with another West Coast Hip Hop heavyweight: Mustard.

The 10 Summers hitmaker posted a picture on Instagram on Tuesday (September 3) of himself and the N.W.A legend in the lab together, quoting some of Dre’s lyrics from “Forgot About Dre” in his caption.

“Back in the lab with my pen and my pad,” he wrote.

Mustard’s post made waves online, with fellow producer extraordinaire Timbaland commenting, “Bout damm time” along with several fire emojis.

While it’s unclear what the two may have been working on, both Dr. Dre and Mustard will have left their mark on 2024 when the year is said and done.

Following a relatively quiet few years, Mustard made an epic comeback this summer by soundtracking Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us,” which not only topped the Billboard Hot 100 and broke multiple streaming records, but was the decisive blow in the Compton rapper’s high-profile beef with Drake.

The multi-platinum producer followed that up with his first album in five years, Faith of a Mustard Seed, which boasted collaborations with Future, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Kodak Black, Lil Durk and more.

Dre, meanwhile, is expected to drop the aforementioned Missionary with Snoop Dogg in the coming months, marking the legendary duo’s first full-length effort since 1993’s Doggystyle.

The Aftermath founder recently fueled excitement for the album by hailing it as some of his best work.

“This one’s gonna show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music. I feel like this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m not playing.”

He added: “The musicians I’m working with right now and some of the writers in the studio that are helping us… Snoop is really excited about this and so am I. I think people are gonna really enjoy this.”

Dre also revealed that he and Snoop are close to finishing the album and are aiming for a November release, which would coincide with the 31st anniversary of Doggystyle (which falls on November 23).

“As soon as we finish this I have to go downstairs and start mixing. I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we have that thing happening [bumps his fists together],” he said. “I’m on song number 11 as far as the mixes go. I have to be done and delivered by September 1st to have a November release.”

The 59-year-old even let slip one high-profile guest while teasing a star-studded supporting cast which may include himself.

“I actually did a couple of songs, I’m not sure if one of them’s gonna make it or not. I produced the entire album but vocally, I think, only one of them is gonna make it,” he shared.

“There’s a song, we have Sting on the song. Man, it’s an amazing roster of artists that’s on this album. I shouldn’t have revealed that, to be honest.”
