Donald Glover has said that he won’t be returning for season two of Mr. & Mrs. Smith despite the show being renewed by Amazon Prime.
Glover and his co-star Maya Erskine are not slated to lead the charge in the show’s second season, according to a report from Variety that ran on Tuesday (March 14).

Glover will still be credited as a co-creator and executive producer on the series alongside Francesca Sloane, who is set to return as showrunner.
“We are excited to announce that a second season of our groundbreaking spy series, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith,’ is in the works for our global Prime Video customers,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, to the outlet. “The success of the first season, with its incredibly modern, sexy reinvention of the original film, is a testament to the brilliant creators Donald Glover and Francesa Sloane. We are proud to bring you another season filled with unforgettable journeys and new adventures.”

Reps for Glover didn’t return Variety‘s request for comment, and Amazon declined to confirm or deny whether the multi-hyphenate would return to the titular role. However, it is speculated that Glover’s musical commitments as Childish Gambino may have influenced his decision not to return to the show.
Earlier this week, Glover returned with his new album Atavista, which is equipped with some huge features.
