Charlamagne Tha God has said that he thinks Hip Hop is thriving, and that those criticizing the genre are “stuck in an era” that’s come and gone.
The Breakfast Club co-host made the comments during a sit-down with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, and shouted out Kodak Black and LaRussell as his personal favorites.

“I think Hip Hop is in a great place,” Charlamagne said around the 13-minute mark. “I think people that don’t like Hip Hop now are just mad that it’s not what it used to be. They’re stuck in an era. I love all these new dudes. My favorite dude is Kodak Black right now. I love LaRussell, I love Symba. I love Rhapsody. I love fucking 21 Savage.”
DJ Envy then chimed in: “I love it not only for that, musically the music is great. I love the fact that these brothers get money. They’re keeping themselves out of the hood, they’re paying for their families. Paying for their mama’s cribs and all that.”
Charlamagne isn’t the only one to praise rap’s current roster. DDG previously came under fire after he said on Twitter that today’s rap talent is “10x better” than past rappers.
“Today’s rappers are 10x better than the rappers back in the today.. Respectfully,” the 2021 HipHopDX Rising Star declared. “I respect the older generation of hiphop, but this generation creativity on another level fr. Hip Hop ain’t never been the number 1 genre until NOW.”

He then doubled down on his opinion when a critic mentioned no one can compare to the reign of Biggie Smalls and 2Pac.
“On some real shit.. when the last time u listened to either in the car.. BE TRUTHFUL,” DDG wrote.

During an interview last summer with Houston’s 97.9 The Box, 50 Cent also shared his thoughts on the current era of rap music, and said creating a track these days is easy because they can pull from what’s popular.
“Look, I’ma be all the way a hunnid with you: part of Hip Hop is youth culture; I don’t think you’re supposed to have the hottest verse at 50 years old in Hip Hop,” he began. “I think the 16-year-old kid, the 15-year-old — that guy should be thinking and doing what is keeping the culture thriving, so it grows to a new energy with new vibes, with new music.
“I mean, some of it you look at and it’s easier! The cadences are the same, they’re rapping the same way on the records. If I gotta go make a record right now, I could do that record easy! You could actually take your favorite records and write your version of your favorite records with your words on that track, and then go get the next track because they’re using the same melody every time.”
He added: “If you know the words to the song — I don’t care whose record it is — just make your version of it. Change the lines and make your version of it. And then it’s gonna be easy to find a track that goes with it because the trap music is using the same tempo, the same cadences, so you gon’ find another track that it goes to perfect. And then you’re like, ‘Yo, this is my new joint!’”

However, Nicki Minaj recently noted that she really wants to hear female MCs start rapping again, and said in an interview with i-D that her “Super Freaky Girl Queen Mix,” was to encourage women rappers to pick up the mic.
“I wanna hear girls rap again. Like, just rap. When I did my BET Cypher years ago, I purposely didn’t wear revealing clothes,” Nicki said. “I wore a sweatsuit. So even though we were being super freaky girls on the song, and we all had fun, y’all really spit.”
