Cardi B has addressed her past comments about Kamala Harris after the current vice president announced her candidacy to replace Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for this year’s election.

The Bronx rap star had previously been a vocal critic of Biden, as well as his decision to run again for president, and backed Harris to succeed him as the Democrat’s candidate to face off against Donald Trump.

Reacting to the news that Biden had pulled out of the race and endorsed Harris to be his successor, Cardi wrote on X on Sunday (July 21): “AHAHAHAHA LETS GOOOOO I TOLD YALLL KAMALA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE 2024 candidate…..STOP FUCKIN PLAYIN WITH ME !!!!!!!”

The “WAP” star added: “Been told y’all Kamala should’ve been the 2024 candidate. Y’all be trying to play the Bronx education, baby this what I do!!! Been my passion.. don’t let my accent fool y’all.”

Cardi B also re-uploaded footage from late June of her offering her take on the Democratic Party as Biden struggled to impress voters with poor debate performances and bizarre mistakes in press conferences.

In the clips, she said: “I feel like it was very selfish of Biden and the whole Democrat Party […] that they allow Biden to continue to run for president. I feel like they should have passed the torch to Kamala. This was the perfect moment for her. Right now, I don’t feel like we have strong candidates.”

She continued: “I feel like this would have been her perfect time to shine. We already know that she’s sharp with the fucking mouth. Whatever value that Biden wants, she’s practically the same value. So I feel like it was a little bit selfish to not make that choice to give her this moment to run for presidency.”

Other figures from the world of Hip Hop and R&B have also weighed in on Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 election.

John Legend said in a lengthy statement: “Joe Biden has presided over the most consequential first term of real progress in my lifetime. … I’m grateful for the grace and patriotism he has shown by choosing to step aside for the sake of the country.

“I’m so ready to work to help unite the pro-democracy coalition to reject Trump’s authoritarian, oppressive Project 2025 and elect Kamala Harris as our President. She’s ready for this fight and I’m excited to help her in any way I can.”
