Cam’ron has claimed that he turned down one of New York City’s highest honors due to its association with embattled figures like Diddy and Eric Adams.
Speaking on his sports talk show It Is What It Is, the Dipset rapper said that Mayor Adams’ office recently offered him the ceremonial key to the city but he said no.

“You know what’s crazy? This is word to everything I love,” he told co-host Ma$e while discussing the bribery and fraud charges against Adams. “Last month, they called me to see if I wanted the key to the city. I said, ‘I don’t want to be involved with nothing.’
“They offered me that shit. They said, ‘Cam, you want the key to the city?’ I was like, ‘That ain’t really up my alley right now. I’m cool with the key to New York City, man.'”

Cam then questioned the value of the honor, saying: “Where does that get you? I don’t want nothing to do with the keys to the city and the n-ggas giving ’em out, the n-ggas who previously had ’em. I don’t got nothing to do with the key to the city.”
Cam’ron’s comments reference the recent indictment against Mayor Adams, who is accused of accepting more than $10 million in illegal campaign contributions from Turkish government officials.
He is the first sitting mayor of New York City to face criminal charges.

Adams has maintained his innocence and has vowed to continue serving as mayor, despite calls for him to resign.
The “Down & Out” MC was also alluding to the bombshell sex trafficking and racketeering case against Diddy, who was awarded the key to NYC last year.

The Bad Boy boss was presented with the key by Adams at a celebratory event at Times Square, during which he gave a speech in front of a sizeable crowd.
However, the honor was later rescinded following the wave of sexual assault lawsuits against Puffy, making him the first person to ever have the key to the city taken away.
Despite Cam’ron’s aversion, numerous figures have happily accepted the key to New York City in recent weeks, including fellow rapper Fat Joe who was presented with the honor in his native borough of The Bronx in late August.
That decision appeared to have been met with pushback from inside the corridors of power, though, with the Terror Squad leader claiming that unnamed figures were “upset.”

“I get the key to the city [on] the 20th and, boy, was that a hard one. Hip Hop got a black eye,” he said on Instagram Live. “The mayor and his crew, his right-hand girl, got me the key to the city. Everybody was a little upset.
“But I don’t know another guy who keeps it realer with the streets of New York than Fat Joe, who feeds more people, opens more businesses. I don’t know what to tell you guys.”
