Cam’ron and Ma$e have mocked young rappers who seemingly sign with Roc Nation with the expectation that they will automatically get a verse from JAY-Z.
Speaking on their show It Is What It Is, the two Harlem rap stars explained how being signed to Jay isn’t enough to just get a guest verse from the legend.

The topic was sparked when Ma$e compared Draymond Green’s issues with LeBron James over his decision to launch a podcast to Roc Nation signees’ dreams of earning a Hov verse, as both NBA stars are signed to Klutch Sports, an agency founded by LeBron’s longtime friend and agent Rich Paul.
“It’s almost like being on Roc Nation and you can’t get the verse,” Murda said of Green’s expectation that James would support his podcast instead of competing with it.

“And that happens a lot. You go to Roc Nation thinking you getting that Hov verse, but a verse never pans out.” Cam chimed in as the two began riffing on the idea, joking that the only thing guaranteed to come with the contract is a paper plane hat.
“They let them n-ggas think they were getting a Hov verse. You’re still waiting for Hov,” Ma$e then joked. “You getting an airplane hat, that’s what you getting.”
Though he contributed to six tracks on Jay Electronica’s debut album A Written Testimony, a JAY-Z verse is a rare commodity especially among artists signed to his record label.
Since establishing Roc Nation in 2019 only Jay Electronica and J. Cole have scored verses from their label boss even as he has found time to create multiple verses for DJ Khaled as well as contributing to tracks by Kanye West, Pusha T and Drake.
Cam’ron, who used to be signed to Jay’s previous record label Roc-A-Fella, landed a verse from Hov on “Welcome to New York City” off his classic album Come Home with Me.
Jay also contributed a verse to Cam’s hit “Oh Boy” but it was not used on the finished single.

Though the two fell out in the mid 2000s during the Roc-A-Fella schism that involved Dame Dash and Def Jam, Cam and Jay mended fences with Killa later making a surprise appearance during Hov’s 2019 show at Terminal 5 in New York to perform “Welcome to New York City.”
