Bun B is doing his part to help remedy the damages caused by extreme weather in his hometown.

A Category 1 hurricane branded Beryl hit the city of Houston earlier this week, causing mass power outages across the region in Texas.

Thursday (July 11) marked the fourth day of the ongoing storm, which is also when the UGK rapper set up a stall at One Church at Bethel’s Family in the affected metropolis to hand out over 500 smashburgers from his Trill Burgers establishment. That same day, he set up the same food drive at a Kroger on E. Sam Houston Parkway.

Though his restaurant has been closed until further notice due to the aforementioned conditions, the veteran MC has taken it upon himself to feed the people of H-Town while climate simmers down.

On Saturday (July 13), his eatery partnered with with Levi’s and gave away an additional 713 burgers in celebration of the city’s original area code, bringing the total to over 1,700 burgers.

Bun B has found tremendous success with Trill Burgers, and he recently explained the difference between his runs in rap and fast food.

During a late-February interview with the 85 South Comedy Show, he discussed his pivot to being a restaurant owner and the freedom it has earned him over the past few years.

“A lot of people think this rap shit is going to get you everywhere you want to go,” he said. “No, they want to know how you became successful; what is your skillset; what did you work hard and train to do; how does that transcribe into other spaces?”

The Texan legend said that his restaurant, which started with pop-ups before expanding to a physical location last June, began growing once he used his connections in the music business to move into big festivals.

“That’s all I needed with this burger, was the opportunity to cut through all the bullshit and just put the burger in front of muthafuckas and let them try the burger,” he said. “So I took the burger everywhere that I could go.”

Bun remembered his experience at Coachella, where the burger joint set up a stand in 2023. He said that while he couldn’t get in as an artist, he had priority parking and his own golf carts as a celebrity food vendor.

“I’m flexing around these hoes, you know what I’m saying?” he said, before explaining how he loved setting up a stall at Rolling Loud because they let him do things his own way with full transparency and flexibility.
