Big Sean has caught a stray from the daughter of Gil Scott-Heron in the form of a brutal joke that she co-signed.

The late jazz poet and singer’s daughter, Chegianna Scott-Heron Newton, shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday (February 27) dragging the Detroit rapper.

The original tweet, which was posted by another user, read: “Gil Scott Heron left this earth almost exactly a month before Big Sean debut album, he knew ahead of time he didn’t want to hear that bullshit.”

Newton evidently didn’t take offense to the scathing joke as she retweeted it and added: “It’s true.”

Big Sean fans took issue with the diss and clapped back at Scott-Heron Newton’s post in his defense.

One user wrote: “Jill Scott Heroin daughter a square that ho ont know shit bout what’s goin on in N-GGA culture she listen to Yves Tumor and Coldplay… SHUT DA FUCK UP.”

Another simply said: “Now why you do this?”

After the backlash, Newton returned to the app and wrote: “Can’t make small small joke on here anymore.”

Big Sean’s debut album Finally Famous arrived on June 28, 2011, just a month after Gil Scott-Heron passed away at the age of 62.

Despite being on the receiving end of a brutal joke, the project was a modest success, debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 while spawning hits like “Dance (A$$)” with Nicki Minaj, “Marvin & Chardonnay” with Kanye West and Roscoe Dash and “My Last” featuring Chris Brown.

It has since been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The “Bounce Back” rapper hasn’t released an album since 2020’s Detroit 2, though that may be changing soon.

Earlier this month, Sean Don hinted that his new project is on the way after veteran Hip Hop journalist Elliott Wilson shared his freestyle over Slum Village’s “Get Dis Money” on social media.

The former G.O.O.D. Music rep commented on the post: “Nah its time for a new album this year fasho. N what u know bout that Dilla beat Elliot?!”
