Big Sean has revealed why he has not yet proposed to longtime girlfriend Jhené Aiko, even though they share a child together.
In a wide-ranging interview with Charlamagne Tha God, the Detroit rapper candidly discussed his near decade-long relationship with the R&B singer.

When asked about possibly tying the knot with Aiko, Sean said: “There has not been a secret industry marriage. It’s a little personal, but to be real with you, just like any people who have dealt with love, we’ve had our ups and downs. And I think it’s still finding the right navigation through it all.”
The former G.O.O.D. Music MC then explained that he doesn’t want to rush into marriage: “To me, marriage symbolizes the best relationship. People be like, ‘When y’all gonna get married?’ I feel like having a relationship is first and foremost, and marriage is a byproduct of that.

“A lot of people get the idea of like, ‘Oh, you have to get married.’ But to me, that’s almost a fear-based way of thinking because then people be getting divorced. The divorce rate is so fucking high.”
Sean insisted that he isn’t ruling out marrying his Twenty88 collaborator, but “there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in general.”
“She and I both have to be on the same page,” he added. “Not to say we aren’t. I can only speak for myself that there needs to be more work done so we can keep going. Because there’s a lot of focus on our family and careers and everything, and that is something that I feel like has not been the main focus.”
Big Sean and Jhené Aiko share a one-year-old son named Noah, who was born in November 2022 after the singer had previously suffered a miscarriage.
The couple began dating in 2016, shortly after Sean’s relationship with pop star Ariana Grande ended.
Aiko also has another child from a past relationship with R&B singer O’Ryan, who is the younger brother of Omarion.
Sean’s comments come shortly after a marriage-related moment between the couple went viral during a concert in Los Angeles.
While the Detroit native performed his verse from their 2013 collaboration “Beware,” rapping the line: “Kept my phone on silent ever since you got a ring,” Aiko replied: “What ring?” while bringing attention to her lack of a wedding ring.
