Benny The Butcher has opened up about his stint in college, revealing a rather surprising fact about his pre-rap career plans.
In an interview with AwaizaDaWave, the Griselda MC was asked what he would have majored in had he pursued higher eductaton, leading him to reveal that he actually spent two semesters in school studying a clinical subject.

“I did do a couple semesters of college,” he said. “I was a psychology major. I feel I woulda been doing some shit like that. I woulda had my own motherfucking clinic or some shit.
“Or I woulda been a lawyer or some shit like that. An accident lawyer. You get hurt in your whip? [Call up Benny]. If you get hurt in your Infiniti? Call up the — I’m thinking of a slogan right now.”
Benny The Butcher has spoken about his former life as an academic in the past.
In a 2020 interview with Sway in the Morning, the Buffalo, New York native admitted that he was a straight-up “nerd” in school and had a particular passion (and talent) for writing (surprise, surprise).

“I definitely read a lot in school, and even more in prison,” he said. “I always was good, even in my times of being bad as hell in school. I always used to get good grades in school, period. Especially English, writing and literature. I’m a good essay writer, I know how to write. I was just good at it.
“My literature teacher told [my aunt] he’s a joy to have in my class. ‘I love to pick him to read. I wish I could have him read the whole book, but I be having to give other students the chance to read.’ I was like, ‘Oh shit, I’m not as bad as I thought, I’m really a nerd in this muthafucka!'”

Although Benny never became a lawyer like he suggested, he did recently help someone in a legal jam.
Earlier this month, the Tana Talk rapper revealed that he was recently arrested in Georgia due to an unspecified probation violation, but his brief stint in jail had a silver lining.
“The Lord works in mysterious ways, right? So last week, I got arrested. I was in Gwinnett County for like four days,” he explained in an Instagram video.
“That’s the first time I ever made it on a unit in 11 years. Had some bullshit probation hold. I didn’t even wanna tell y’all, man. But long story short: I met some brothers that I probably wouldn’t have been able to meet if I wasn’t in there.”

He continued: “I got to meet somebody and got the opportunity to help him with his lawyer. Somebody who I just met, told me he needed help with his lawyer and I helped that n-gga just outta nowhere ’cause that’s the least that I could do. Being back in there just opened my eyes up and showed me what’s still going on.”
Beny elaborated on why he helped the stranger, saying: “Trust me, I ain’t do that shit to get on here and tell y’all I did that shit. That shit just made me feel good in my soul ’cause I’ve been in that position before.

“I just be trying to help strangers, my n-gga. And I say that to say: a lot of you n-ggas is beyond help from other people. You gotta help yourselves at this point.”
