Baby Keem has released the trailer for his forthcoming short film The Melodic Blue, based on his 2021 breakthrough album of the same name.
Released on Tuesday (November 28), the short clip describes the “melodic blue” as a place where all human emotions and feelings are heightened. Keem briefly appears alongside other actors (Amandla Stenberg, Shakira Ja’nai Paye, Francis Lovehall, and Séréna Sy are listed alongside Keem in the trailer’s credits), but few other details have been revealed.

The YouTube caption reads, “Baby Keem’s internal battle leads us through fragments of memory and temptation as he navigates the depths of The Melodic Blue.”
Keem first announced the film with a graphic on the screen during his performance with Kendrick Lamar (as The Hillbillies) at Tyler, The Creator‘s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival earlier this month.

In August, The Melodic Blue was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The LP featured guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Don Toliver and Brent Faiyaz and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 upon its arrival in September 2021. After selling 53,000 copies in its first week, the album actually sold nearly 5x more in its second week with a whopping 236,000 units. The album reached gold status in April 2022.

In celebration of the feat, Baby Keem announced that a new album was on the way while performing at the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival in Montreal, Quebec on August 5.
“New album coming soon, muthafuckas!” Keem said. “I love you all, and until next time – peace!”

While he has yet to release any new material since then, he did give fans the first live performance of “The Hillbillies” at Camp Flog Gnaw, as previously mentioned.
Alongside Tyler, the trio performed at the annual show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 11. Since Tyler put on the festival and appears in the song’s music video, it seemed only logical to have him perform the track with Kendrick and Keem.
While the audience seemed to love the song, Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem were previously accused of biting Drake on it.
The pgLang rappers released their collaborative effort back in May, with the Bon Iver-sampling song being accompanied by a grainy video capturing Kendrick and Keem having fun as they travel the world.

Fans took to social media following its release to claim they stole Drake’s flow from his Honestly, Nevermind track “Sticky,” while pointing out the similarities in the songs’ beats.
“Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem used Drake’s Sticky flow and this is how it came out,” one fan wrote on Twitter, while another said: “Yooo everyone fucking with that new Kendrick!! Now give Drake his credit for predicting dance music was the new wave cause Hillbillies is just Kendrick’s version of Sticky.”

Someone else joked: “Drake after listening to the new Kendrick & keem song” next to a clip of Soulja Boy on The Breakfast Club yelling: “He copied my whole fucking flow! Word for word! Bar for bar!”
One listener even claimed that Kendrick was not jacking his longtime rival, but “clowning” him — supporting their case by comparing K. Dot’s lyrics to Drake’s globe-trotting bars on “Middle of the Ocean.”
