Baby Keem seems to be cooking up some new material in the studio as the anticipation for his sophomore album continues to rise.

On Wednesday (February 28), the pgLang signee shared a clip of himself on Instagram in which he could be seen playing with different sounds and tunes on a stylophone, switching from melodic to distorted.

Though he didn’t provide any context or even a caption, a lot of fans have perceived the post as a sign of new music considering that he recently teased a new project on social media.

After simply tweeting the words “child with wolves” in early January, he took to his IG Stories last week and shared a text exchange from an “album” group chat in which he confirmed that as the album’s title.

He also shared what appeared to be potential album covers and made his preference clear by writing: “I don’t like the sci-fi Keem. Toy I like the bottom ghost.”

In a subsequent screenshot from the same conversation, he referenced one of the songs he’s working on and wrote: “Something really beautiful in this sample we used… Need it amplified… Can follow the sample like how the string follows in ‘everything is mine.’”

Baby Keem’s last album The Melodic Blue, which was also his full-length debut, arrived in September 2021 and immediately made him one of the hottest prospects in the game.

Home to the hit singles “Family Ties” featuring his cousin and close collaborator Kendrick Lamar and “Durag Activity” with Travis Scott, the project peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified platinum.

Other guest appearances on the album included Lil Uzi Vert, Don Toliver, Brent Faiyaz and PinkPantheress.

In a 3.6 out of 5 review, HipHopDX‘s Josh Svetz wrote: “Keem seems like an artist we are expected to accept is a rap star rather than waiting for him to prove it. His debut album, The Melodic Blue, is Keem’s attempt to silence that doubt, a showcase of his full arsenal as a rapper and proof he’s here to stay.”

He added: “While The Melodic Blue may act as a blueprint as to how Keem can become a star, it doesn’t put him in that class. It’s a standard debut album, with plenty of flaws and high moments that flash greater potential but not much else.”

Baby Keem has since stayed relatively quiet on the music front, with the exception of dropping a Grammy-nominated single with Kendrick — under the name The Hillbillies — and appearing on his big cousin’s album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
