9th Wonder is looking forward to AIR, the forthcoming film about Michael Jordan’s Nike deal, and has taken to the internet to express his excitement.

AIR will tell the story of Nike shoe salesman Sonny Vaccaro as he worked to sign a young MJ to a deal to wear its shoes in the early 1980s. The dramedy stars Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, Chris Tucker and Viola Davis and arrives in theaters on April 5.

“Good Lord. I got the chills,” 9th wrote on Instagram while posting the film’s trailer on Thursday (February 9). “#AIR The Story of Air Jordan. We goin to the MOVIES!!!! Wearing Jordans!!!!!”

Check out the trailer in 9th’s post below:

Air Jordans have been a staple in Hip Hop culture since their inception over three decades ago. During a podcast appearance last month, Will Smith detailed how he would always ask Michael Jordan to lace him up with the newest pair before anyone else got their hands on them in his Fresh Prince days.

According to Smith, he had no idea what he was doing for the culture when putting on the fly outfits he would rock, he just wanted to be fresh and the most stylish.

“I was living the culture,” Smith said. “I was literally calling Jordan like ‘Mike, please, please don’t give it to nobody. Just let me be the first person, I gotta be the first person to wear it’. And he was like ‘Man, I don’t run that.’”

As for 9th Wonder, movies certainly aren’t the only thing on his mind. The legendary producer has been busy with his protégé Reuben Vincent, who he helped get signed to JAY-Z’s Roc Nation last year.

And while celebrating the 25th anniversary of FL Studio at the end of 2022, 9th looked back on his decorated career.

“Sign of the Times. I never thought that I would end up being a music producer. That never was a goal of mine as a kid. Did I love music? Yes. Did I think I was gonna be a part of the story we call ‘Hip-Hop’? No,” 9th Wonder captioned his post. “Everyone’s path is different into the culture. Mine was by way of a computer program in 2000. Some things you just do, out of necessity, not knowing the ripple effect it would have on culture.

“I was introduced to @flstudio in 2000 by my brother @khrysis_, and it all fell into place from there. Heavily ridiculed and looked down upon? Yes. Did it stop me from making slappers? No. Now, many moons later, making beats WITHOUT a computer is now almost obsolete; there are still hardware users in the culture, but I see more laptops and controllers than ever before.”

He continued: “Either way, me stepping into a studio making Jay-Z’s ‘Threat’ in 25 minutes was the beginning of a revolution. Sitting in a studio in front of half of Rocafella and make a beat with an @ibm ThinkPad in 2003 for such a legendary album, was mind blowing to some, but for me, it was just something I had been doing, over, and over, and over….making slappers on a PC.”

9th went on and gave praise to the “millions” of creatives who still use FL Studio around the world and told them to continue making beats and adding on to the culture.
