21 Savage has revealed that his latest album will not have a full-length cinematic accompaniment, and that he never planned on releasing one in the first place.
The Atlanta rapper made an appearance on an episode of Club Shay Shay that premiered on Wednesday (January 24), during which he confessed that the American Dream biopic was a prank all along.

“That was a parody,” he said, as though it was already understood. “I feel like it could be [a real movie] one day. They’ll hate on it now though, ’cause they going to be like, ‘What the fuck 21 Savage deserve a story for? […] What he did?'”

An official press release sent out by the rapper’s record label Epic in the lead-up to his album referred to American Dream: The 21 Savage Story as his “debut film.” A week prior to the audio package’s release, he shared a teaser poster that featured images of himself, Donald Glover and Caleb McLaughlin.
The following day, the Slaughter King dropped what was branded as the project’s official trailer.
“See my shooter pescatarian but he eat all the beef/ You gave me your ass to kiss but want the all of me/ I stand on business dot my i’s and cross my t’s/ All I got is these lil’ pictures when I think of all the G’s,” he raps about his past while sitting inside an interrogation room.
The clip, which has now turned out to be just a music video for “all of me,” features McLaughlin playing a younger 21 while Glover plays him a few years later as he enters the rap industry. Druski, Young Mazino and more also make cameos.

Other scenes include the Southern MC being bullied at school, moving around the streets of Atlanta and meeting Metro Boomin, who assisted him a great deal during his come-up.
Furthermore, the album’s pre-save was billed as “music inspired by the film.”
