HipHopDX Premiere: Freestyle Fellowship and Project Blowed alum Self Jupiter has resurfaced with a video for “Layers,” the title track from his forthcoming album.
Featuring production from Burnin Giraph and mixing/co-production from Jefferson Park Boys trio, the track was recorded at the Cosmic Zoo studio in Los Angeles with renowned engineer Daddy Kev providing the final mastering.
“Think of an onion,” Self Jupiter suggests. “There are so many layers, but we often only let people see our first layer and hide the inner layers in fear that someone may see them as less desirable than the outside layer. These inner layers — they aren’t pretty. They can be tough to look at and embrace, but that doesn’t mean they are bad. We need to be proud of all the layers that make us who we are.”
“Layers” is the second offering from the underground Hip Hop staple’s upcoming album and follows the first single, “Lemongrass.” The main, instrumental, and a cappella versions of the single are included on the 7″ lathe cut and digital versions.
