HipHopDX Premiere: Self-proclaimed “teacher/rapper/hero” Mega Ran returns with an animated visual for “Space Defense Team” with Hip Hop legend Kool Keith and fellow MC Wordburglar, a vision he’s had in mind for awhile.
“I really lucked up being able to work with a legend like Kool Keith for this album, and he was so helpful in putting together the concept,” Mega Ran tells DX. “When the song was almost done, one of my favorite MCs, Wordburglar, had hit me up and I knew he’d be the perfect third man on this one. It reminded me of one of my favorite games back in the day, Golden Axe, how you had three different warriors with different specialties all coming together to wreck shop. We took that formula to space, to celebrate some of my favorite space shooters like R-Type and UN Squadron, and Doctor Octagon went to town with the execution. It feels like 16-bit super hero music.”
The song comes from his new album, RNDM, which features composer Michiru Yamane, who is famous for her award-winning soundtrack to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Playstation), as well as Hip Hop royalty Murs, Joell Ortiz, Lazerbeak of the Minneapolis collective Doomtree, and, of course, Kool Keith.
