With Erykah Badu on the decks, Gladys Knight (accompanied by Robert Glasper), Tyrese, Angie Stone and Ne-Yo participated in the Soul Train Awards “Soul Cypher,” a nearly seven-minute clip of the distinguished artists singing their hearts out.
The evening also honored the career of R&B legend Teddy Riley, with the “Legend Award” and saw performances from Doug E. Fresh, Brandy, Anderson .Paak, Eric Benet, Dru Hill, Bobby Brown, Yuna, BJ The Chicago Kid, Tito Jackson, and, of course, Ms. Badu, who teamed up with D.R.A.M. to perform “WiFi.”
Last year, the “Soul Cypher” rounded up Lalah Hathaway, Chrisette Michele, and K-Ci and The O’Jay’s Eddie Levert to perform over Mobb Deep’s classic “Shook Ones Pt. II.”
