Over the course of 12 minutes, The Weeknd‘s visual piece, Mania, begins with a sullen-looking black panther sitting in a white room as the sounds of the Future-assisted “All I Know” fills up the air. Then we see the Canadian R&B artist driving a Lambo through the mountains as he sings “Sidewalks” (featuring Kendrick Lamar) until somehow he ends up in a club bathroom covered in blood while a dead body continues to bleed out on the floor in front of him with “Party Monster” playing in the background. It comes to an end with a dance scene as “I Feel It Coming” with Daft Punk provides the soundtrack. Weird, right?
Directed by frequent collaborator Grant Singer, the film is a warm-up for The Weeknd’s highly anticipated album, Starboy, which is scheduled for release on Friday (November 25). The build-up has been intense over the past couple of months and Mania is just another example of the intriguing artistry behind the project. Watch it above.
