Dynasty delivers a powerful verse on her latest release “Be,” featuring Eliana. It represents a perspective less than popular in commercial rap music:

“Said she made broken look beautiful,” she delivers. “Said the things of the world didn’t do to her what they might do to you / Yeah, she walks with her head held high / And her feet to the ground no nose to the sky / A rebel / And even though she’s on another level / Her / Presence will settle you / Spirit incredible… she make everybody else so forgettable / Get your ones up / rock with the ones who can raise your sons up / Build up your daughters and fill their cups up / Everything else is irrelevant…”

It’s a powerful sentiment, especially the final two and a half bars. Seriously, how often are we reminded to “rock with the ones who can raise our sons up?” Regardless of the answer, the confidence behind Dynasty’s lyrical tap dance is what brings “Be” home. Golden era influences drip through her vocals straight to the graffiti bombed on the wall behind her.

“I believe that it is important to see and hear women who are lyrically powerful,” she tells HipHopDX exclusively. “We’ve been here as long as our male counterparts but somewhere along the line [for us] this notion popped up that there could only be one, or that we had to compromise for commercial success. I know that the people want to see a woman with dope lyrics, delivery, and relatability (no gimmicks) rise again, especially with all that’s going on in this crazy world. Everything needs balance and Hip Hop is no exception.”
