ComplexCon went down over the weekend without a hitch and it just happened to go down in Vince Staples’ Long Beach neck of the woods.
While walking through the Long Beach Convention center floor with VP of Content Strategy, Complex Magazine, Joe La Puma, Staples confessed he was something like a reformed sneakerhead who had given most of his kicks away to his close kinfolks.
“I used to spend a lot of my money on sneakers,” the always candid 23-year-old said before adding “[LBC boutique] Proper is right up the street.”
Yet it was a moment of humility with a younger kid that made Staples rethink his fashion approach.

“I remember once, I had some Jordan IV’s and they was old as hell … they cracked the other day, I had ’em on it’s funny … but this kid asked “What kind of shoes are those?” and I told him and he was like “I wish I had those shoes” and it made me feel like shit. So my whole thing, I didn’t ever want to have on nothing that can make somebody who was considered a fan or look up to me to feel like they were beneath me.”
Vince does admit the Jordan IV’s are his all-time faves and he still keeps a few pairs on deck. (Fifty or sixty pairs if he had to guestimate.)
