After releasing the single “Lovestar” last week, Common has returned with a documentary of the same name. As the title suggests, the nearly 11-minute video is all about love and features interviews from several women and Common, as well.
Speaking on the short film’s inspiration, Common told Essence, “When I wrote the song, I was thinking about when you really love a person. I thought about when I love a woman and I can enjoy her, but at the same time she can enjoy me and we can have fun and laugh. But then there’s also a real bond that’s there that has spirituality, growth, support and integrity connected in it. We’re willing to make mistakes, but we’re there for each other, that’s true love.”
As Common’s eleventh album and follow-up to 2014’s Nobody’s Smiling gets ready for release, the short film is a reminder there’s a lot of love in the world, even though at times it feels like there’s nothing but hate. No release date or title has been announced.
