Born and raised in Carol City, Florida, Denzel Curry began rapping in sixth grade. At the ripe age of 21, he’s one of this year’s breakout artists. In fact, he landed a coveted spot on XXL’s 2016 Freshman list alongside Desiigner and Anderson .Paak. His latest video for “Gook” portrays the young rapper amid abandoned and graffiti-laden buildings, rapping about growing up as a “gook,” a normally controversial slur.
“Gook” comes from Curry’s well-received sophomore album, Imperial. He takes off on tour September 14 on The Black Metal Tourist Tour with fellow rapper Boogie.
